Of Monsters and Men

She had awoken in Nico's estate the sound of voices coming into her head as she sat up. It appeared her new 'friend' was dealing with the issue of that mark being ignored. If on impulse upon the thought her hand moved to her ear brushing back the hair that covered it. Proof she supposed that she'd been bought and sold a long time ago. Swinging her feet over the side of the bed she caught the movement just out of the corner of her eye a woman moving towards her. More than likely just another servant or perhaps a guard that had been asked to 'watch' over her. She made no motion as she slide preparing to stand just as red hair the same shade as her own came to brush across her cheek so close to her that she glanced up to see her mother's eyes staring back at her as they had a thousand times before.

It had been clear that someone had her mother's face since she had seen her body was it just yesterday? Her mind trying to piece together time as she stared for that brief moment it took her to catch up. The woman purred against her ear whispering. "Come now Jezebel no kiss for mommy?"

The anger raising up. The most horrid power they possessed was to peel the face off a person and place it upon their own becoming them these masks often treasures to their kind. She moved kicking the woman away as she growled. "I will kill you."

The vampire laughed as she charged towards Jezebel who was now on her feet her mind already moving towards the best course of action when something crashed through the window and was there standing before her. Though all she could see was the man's back she knew this man she had seen him before in the trials. The demon of the tunnels stood in the moonlight the scars reflecting off his body as he whirled flinging the vampire across the room with such force she hit the wall with a thud. Jez was sure she had broken a few bones at least while secretly hoping she was dead. But before she could find out the beast turned towards her and flung her over his shoulder jumping back out the window and towards the ground.

Barely able to catch her breath they were on the move down through the streets to the underground parts through the tunnels people fleeing out of the way as they passed before she was finally set on the ground again. She was placed on the ground as she whirled around ready for the fight she was sure would come as she looked up at the hulking form. Unsure why bring her down here to kill her perhaps he was going to use her for other things but instead she was greeted with a gnarled hand, finger nails like claws extending towards her almost softly as if afraid she would flee. She paused frowning as her eyes moved up his body. A body covered with scars, long gashes, rigged and bloody across her torso. Pieces of something else almost seemed sewn in with patches of different colored fur here and there like someone had just thrown it all together. Long arms, too long for his torso one hanging against his side another out towards her. Pus filled sore leaking from them as she looked up his face seemed off somehow like his face had been removed and pieces of others had been put back it its place.

There was no hair on his lopsided head but his eyes, deep blue and looking at her like the one spec of beauty in a nightmare canvas, watched her. Waiting. For the reaction he knew was to come. She was confused as she looked at him. Was he trying to shake her hand? She reached out taking his own inside of hers as his eyes grew wide. He had thought like so many others she would turn away in fear instead she seemed confused, Jez wondered had he come to help her. "Were you helping?" She asked dropping her hand to her side.

He grunted in response. Unable to know what that meant she took it as a yes. And so it would begin her journey to learn the truth about the monster before her with the deep eyes that seemed so angry but held just a whisper of hope. It was this path that helped her to understand that he was the demon and the man that had come to help her. Over the course of the next few weeks she would learn what she could though he never spoke a word. He only growled or grunted, sometimes a shake of the head to answer her, But she did not hear his voice. It became clear that the vampires had experimented on him and like her--he had broken free. Had he seen her as a kinder spirit Was that why he came to her aid? She liked to think so. She also realized it was possible he had been trying to help her during the trials and not hurt her but she only got a grunt when she asked and a hint of a smile.

So, she could only assume that she was correct. During this time he stood as her guide and protector. Jez came to know that he was feared and for good reason. He tended to take what he wanted and she would have to chide him as he glanced at her growling and she would say. "Don't take that tone with me." Causing him to back off each time in surprise. He was not use to being treated like a person. Not to mention being held responsible for his actions. She realized he lashed out when people came to be afraid of him and that had made him hate. Slowly she was getting through maybe in time she could have him help the people down here the way he tried to help her. She had no long how long it would last but her plans would come crashing down around her. It should be clear that the vampires would come looking for her. It should be clear they would not see what she did and even if they did why care about a broken toy.
